Rothman Gordon: Douglass Elected to Board of Horticultural Society

DOUGLASS ELECTED TO BOARD OF HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY

Pittsburgh, PA—January 12, 2006—Samuel L. Douglass, an attorney with Rothman Gordon, P.C., was recently elected to the Board of The Horticultural Society of Western Pennsylvania. Mr. Douglass says that he is "pleased and proud to be part of this dynamic organization."

The Society is committed to developing a Botanic Garden on over 400 acres of Settler's Cabin Park land just off the Parkway West. Studies based upon the experience of other cities, show that the Botanic Garden will become a significant contributor to the economies of Pittsburgh and Western Pennsylvania.

The Botanic Garden is also expected to be a stimulus for attractive planting on both public and private properties throughout the region in the area.

Allegheny County has made the land available for the Botanic Garden, the State of Pennsylvania has furnished seed money and the Society is gathering support from individuals, companies and foundations that want to be a part of the project.

Environmental clean-up will precede the planting of the new Botanic Garden, delaying its public opening for possibly a few years. Past coal mining has left acid mine drainage problems and a major gob (coal waste) disposal pile at the premises that must first be removed. It is anticipated that work on the Botanic Garden can start as ground is made available from the clean up-operations. Mr. Douglass' law practice, which focuses on mineral law, including coal, oil and gas, makes him an asset to the Society.
