![]() Tom Solomich is the first to admit he's not a sailor. But that didn't stop him from embarking on a yachting adventure with friends and clients, Ben Sampson, Myles Sampson, and Clois Fears. Last February, the crew set sail on Ben and Clois's boat, the Molly Jane, launching from Marsh Harbour and exploring the Abacos Islands in the Bahamas. The Abacos are a long necklace of pale sanded islands, stretching over 120 miles. Although a haven for fisherman, only Myles caught anything—a barracuda. Tom and the others, thinking it imprudent to bring the sharp toothed predator onboard, cut the line. Warm winds continued their trip to Guana Cay, Elbow Cay, and Treasure Cay. They returned again in December for a three day jaunt, revisiting Hopetown in Elbow Cay and adding Green Turtle Cay, which unfortunately, has few remaining green turtles but some very beautiful scenery. Ben and Clois did most of the sailing, with Tom and Myles composing the crew. Tom became quite adept at raising and lowering of the dinghy to explore the islands. We're still not sure how they convinced themselves to leave the beautiful, balmy Bahamas for cold, dark and snowy Pittsburgh, but we're glad to have them home! |
