![]() When people set goals for themselves, running a marathon is one that often appears on the list. So what do you do when you complete that goal? Well, if you're Louis Kushner, you up the ante by changing locales. Louis, the head of Rothman Gordon's Labor and Employment Department, as well as a seasoned mediator, ran his first marathon, the Pittsburgh Marathon, in 1987. Since then he has competed in a total of 13 marathons, including those in New York City, Boston, Chicago, Philadelphia, and New Orleans. Eventually, Louis turned his attention outside of the U.S. and began to travel abroad to run. The concept of a marathon is based upon the legend of Phidipidis, an Athenian soldier who, in 490 B.C., ran from Marathon to Athens to announce the Athenian victory against the Persians. In 2004, Louis ran what is widely believed to be the original marathon course, beginning in Marathon and terminating in the Athens Olympic Stadium. The course was used during the 2004 Olympics, which were hosted in Greece. More recently, Louis retuned from China, where he participated in the 2005 ANA Bejing International Marathon. This 25 year old annual event began in Tian'anmen Square and was to end at the National Olympic Sports Centre, attracting as many as 23,000 runners from 30 countries. Where next? Louis hasn't decided yet, but you can be sure it will be somewhere exciting. Other Rothman Gordon Stories: |
