John E. Black
J. Black is an accomplished trial lawyer and appellate attorney with nearly 20 years of experience in all aspects of state and federal labor and employment law. He devotes most of his practice to employment litigation, representing employees who have faced discrimination in the workplace, including age discrimination, racial discrimination, gender discrimination, and sexual harassment. He also negotiates and prepares settlement and severance agreements as well providing counsel to individuals regarding non-competition covenants. J. has been recognized by Best Lawyers in America ® in the area of Labor and Employment Law every year since 2010 and in 2014 was recognized as its Pittsburgh Employment Law Lawyer of the Year – Individuals. He has also been selected as a Pennsylvania Super Lawyer in Employment Law annually since 2013 and as a Pennsylvania Super Lawyer Rising Star in 2008 and 2011.
J. earned his B.A. in History from McDaniel College (formerly Western Maryland College) and his J.D., magna cum laude, at the University of Pittsburgh School of Law. He is a member of Order of the Coif and received the CALI Award in Contracts and Civil Procedure. He also served as Managing Editor of the University of Pittsburgh Law Review.
