Waste Management

From assisting clients with permitting, ongoing regulatory compliance and perceived nuisance issues associated with waste generation to assisting clients in navigating the myriad of legal requirements necessary to redevelop or repurpose contaminated properties, our attorneys have significant experience in addressing waste-related issues.  Our attorneys counsel clients with respect to how to properly handle and dispose of solid waste and hazardous waste.  Our attorneys have assisted builders and developers in properly disposing of construction material (including asbestos) and have advised gas station owners on requirements associated with installing, permitting, operating and properly closing storage tanks.  In conjunction with our Real Estate Group, our attorneys practicing in waste management provide property owners with guidance on properly cleaning up contaminated properties (either through voluntary cleanup programs or pursuant to CERCLA), negotiating settlement agreements with potentially responsible parties and government agencies for property cleanups and developing institutional controls through environmental covenants.
