We love pets, but what does the law say about protecting our furry loved ones?
This program will examine relevant Pennsylvania laws that impact animals, especially pets. In particular the program will examine Libre’s Law, pet trusts and the Pets for Vets program.
Libre’s Law
Signed into law in June 2017, Libre’s law is designed to protect Pennsylvania animals from abuse. The law brings with it stiffer penalties and punishments for animal abuse, cruelty and neglect. The law spells out clear delineation regarding animal-related summary offenses, misdemeanors and felonies. The program will examine the law, including the inhumane conditions that sparked the legislation and a detail of the legislative process that made the law a reality.
Pet Trusts
More and more people are taking their pets into consideration when formulating an estate plan. The program will examine legal planning for those who have no one to take their animals after death.
Pets for Vets
The program is designed to “help heal the emotional wounds of military veterans by using the power of the human-animal bond to provide a second chance for shelter animals by rescuing, training and pairing them with America’s servicemen and women who could benefit from having a companion animal.”
*Reception to be held immediately after program.
